Royal Oak, Offshore and Code 11.59

The Royal Oak is the watch Gérald Genta drew for Audemars Piguet in 1972: octagonal bezel, eight hexagonal screws, integrated bracelet and a tapisserie dial. It is the core of our AP inventory, in 34mm, 37mm and 41mm, from time-and-date Selfwinding references to perpetual calendars and skeletons.

The Royal Oak Offshore takes the same language and enlarges it, with thicker cases, rubber and ceramic pushers and a chronograph focus. Code 11.59 is the round-case collection introduced in 2019, where a circular middle case sits inside an octagonal frame with a doubly curved sapphire crystal. Millenary keeps the oval case and off-centre dial, and Jules Audemars is the classical, round dress line.

What drives value

With Royal Oak, small differences matter: case size, dial colour and tapisserie scale, bracelet condition, and whether the case has been polished. An unpolished case with crisp bevels is worth more than a nominally better-condition watch that has lost its edges. We describe polishing honestly, list the reference, and note box and papers where present.

Sizing a Royal Oak

Royal Oak sizing is not intuitive. The 41mm reads smaller than its number because the bezel is wide and the lugs are effectively part of the bracelet, while the 37mm suits far more wrists than people expect and the 34mm quartz and automatic references are genuinely unisex. Offshore adds both diameter and considerable thickness, so a 42mm Offshore and a 41mm Royal Oak are not comparable. Tell us your wrist measurement and how you want it to sit.
