Understanding the reference numbers

Richard Mille numbers by calibre family rather than by collection name. RM 07 and RM 037 are the women's automatic lines, RM 011 is the flyback chronograph that made the brand's reputation, RM 030 has the declutchable rotor, RM 035 is the lightweight Rafael Nadal watch, RM 67 is the extra-flat automatic, and RM 71 and RM 72 sit in the jewellery and chronograph ends of the range.

Materials and case construction

The case is a tripartite structure held together by spline screws, and what it is made of drives both the look and the price. Carbon TPT is built from layered carbon filaments that produce the distinctive marbled grain; Quartz TPT does the same in white or colour; NTPT, titanium, ceramic and precious metals all appear. Movements are skeletonised and often suspended on cables or splined bridges, which is why these watches survive impacts that would stop a conventional calibre.

Authentication and enquiry

Richard Mille is a brand where authentication is not optional, and we do it in-house before anything is listed: case numbers, movement, strap hardware and finish are all checked. Because of the values involved, most of our Richard Mille inventory is listed as price on request. Those watches are in stock, and we will quote and discuss condition and provenance on enquiry, in the showroom at 66 West 47th Street, Booth 19 or over the phone. We also buy and take Richard Mille in trade.
