The Cartier families we stock

The Santos is where Cartier's wristwatch story starts, created in 1904 for the aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont and still recognisable by its squared bezel and exposed screws. The current generation adds QuickSwitch strap changes and SmartLink bracelet sizing. The Santos-Dumont is its flatter, quieter, quartz-or-manual sibling.

The Tank arrived in 1917 and has never really left, and it is less one watch than a family: Tank Louis Cartier, Tank Française, Tank Américaine, Tank Must and Tank Solo all read differently on the wrist. The Ballon Bleu, launched in 2007, is the round option, with the crown and its blue cabochon tucked inside a guard. The Baignoire stretches the case into an oval, the Panthère is the jewellery-bracelet watch, and Clé de Cartier and the Ronde line round out the round-case offering.

Sizing and metal

Cartier sizes by case name rather than by millimetre alone, so a Medium Santos and a Large Santos are genuinely different watches. If you are buying unseen, tell us your wrist size and how you want it to sit, and we will tell you which case reads correctly. Most families run across steel, two-tone, and 18k yellow, rose and white gold, with diamond-set bezels and dials on many references.
