Invenit et Fecit

The phrase on every Journe dial means invented and made, and it is a literal claim. François-Paul Journe designs the complications himself, and the house has built its reputation on solving old problems in new ways: the Chronomètre à Résonance uses two independent balances that stabilise each other through acoustic resonance, the Tourbillon Souverain carries a remontoir d'égalité for constant force, and the Octa family runs a five-day automatic calibre across date, calendar, power reserve and moon variants.

Why the movements are gold

Since 2004 Journe has made mainplates and bridges from solid 18k rose gold rather than brass. It is dimensionally stable, does not need plating, and it is one of the few places in watchmaking where a decision that costs significantly more is made for reasons that are mostly not visible from the dial side. The Chronomètre Bleu in tantalum remains the most sought-after entry to the brand.

Sizing and the collector's case

Journe cases are small by modern standards, typically 38mm to 40mm, and deliberately so: the proportions are drawn from mid-century dress watches and the dials are laid out asymmetrically rather than filled. The result reads as considered rather than undersized. Because production is tiny and the brand has no meaningful advertising presence, most buying happens through relationships and word of mouth, which is why we will tell you plainly what is realistically available.

Availability and enquiry

Journe production is small and allocation-driven, so anything we hold is short-lived and usually listed as price on request. If you are looking for a specific reference, contact us at 66 West 47th Street, Booth 19 or by phone and we will tell you honestly what is findable and what is not. We also buy F.P. Journe.
