The Gibeon meteorite and the Widmanstätten pattern

Rolex meteorite dials are crafted from thin slices of the prehistoric Gibeon meteorite, which fell in Namibia thousands of years ago. As the molten nickel-iron core of the asteroid cooled over millions of years in space, it formed intricate interlocking crystalline bands known as the Widmanstätten pattern. Because this crystalline structure cannot be reproduced on Earth, no two meteorite dials are identical. Rolex pairs these extraterrestrial surfaces exclusively with precious metals: the Cosmograph Daytona with black chronograph sub-dials on white gold, yellow gold and Everose gold (including references 116515LN, 116518LN, 116519LN and 126519LN); the prestigious Day-Date 40 and 36 in platinum (references 228236, 228396TBR, 118346 and 118206), yellow gold and white gold (228239); the white gold GMT-Master II “Pepsi” 126719BLRO; and mid-size Lady-Datejust models.
