This limited edition timepiece is a true testament to the innovative spirit of Richard Mille. With only 140 pieces available, the grey Cermet used in its construction is the result of extensive research and a commitment to creating new materials. Combining the lightness of titanium with the hardness of diamond, this exclusive material is used in the construction of the automatic movement, which features a GMT display, 24-hour flyback chronograph, and annual calendar.
The iconic case measures 50 x 42.70 mm and is only 16.15 mm thick, with the added grey cermet perfectly complementing its aerodynamic lines. This unique grey color is achieved through a combination of a metallic zirconium matrix and high-performance ceramic inserts, a process that required great precision and adherence to safety standards.
The development of this material took years of collaboration between Richard Mille and the IMI Group, resulting in a solution that uses a combination of hot stamping and electrical current pulses to increase sintering kinetics. With a density of 4.1 g/cm3 and a hardness of 2,360 Vickers, cermet is a wise choice for the bezel, providing scratch resistance while maintaining overall lightness.
Known for its physical properties, cermet is commonly used in ballistic protection, aerospace components, and competition vehicle brakes. The combination of Carbon TPT® caseband, grade 5 titanium caseback, and grey cermet bezel significantly reduces the weight of the RM 11-05.
